Bastide Blue

Honey-coloured stone under a sky turned up loud: the rock church and monolith spire of Saint-Émilion, a Gothic gable wrapped in ivy, the square keep at Pujols and the round keep at Rauzan, château steps above the Dordogne, the town-hall clock in Pellegrue, white tracks and stone walls running out across the plain, umbrella pines and green kayaks on the river at Eynesse. Pushed bold, so the limestone glows and the blue goes deep.
