Last Light Out

Everything that moves, caught at the hour it glows: a freighter slipping past Miami Beach on New Year's Eve, a car carrier easing out of the Port of Los Angeles, a jet waiting on the taxiway at Newark as the sun drops. Then a hard turn into bold daylight: a warbird on its plinth, a hull painted blue over red, a fireboat under the Bay Bridge, Dulles's mobile lounges lined up like a parade. Golden where the light allows it, bold where it doesn't.
